Mysore Important Travel Spots
- a) Mysore Palace -
Mysore Palace was the official residence of the Mysore kings before India's independence. There are many palaces in Mysore, however, the most prominent one among them is situated inside the fort, which is one of the main Tourist Spots. Though Mysore Palace was originally built in the 14th century, it was destroyed several times in the history and the present structure of the palace was completed in 1912. Intricately carved wooden and silver doors and ceilings made up of marble,ivory and other materials, wall paintings etc are some of the awesome features. It is illuminated on special occasions.
- b) Mysore Zoo -
Mysore Zoo. Tuesday Holiday. One of the largest Zoo in South India. Palace and Zoo can be visited on same day. From here you can catch bus to Chamundi Hills in the evening.
- c) Brindavan Gardens -
Brindavan Gardens or Krishna Raja Sagar Dam Gardens. Located in the outskirts of Mysore. The "musical fountain show" is big attraction, which is showed for one or two hours from dusk. Thousands visit here every day.
- d) Chamundi Hills -
Chamundi Hills, has a temple of Goddess Chamundeshwari. The huge Nandi statue on the mountain is also well known. Though people can climb to the top of the hill with some effort, many prefer to take luxury bus trip to the hill. Chamundi Temple is known for its marvelous architecture. The view from hill top, of the illuminated Mysore city under starry night sky is an unforgettable sight.
- e) Jagmohan Palace -
Jagmohan Palace and Art Gallery. Palace, which was built in 1861, now has been converted into Art gallery and museum of musical instruments and artifacts.

- h) Lalit Mahal Palace -

Jayalakshmi Vilas mansion, a heritage structure, situated in the Mysore University Campus, Manasagangotri. Houses a museum. Built by erstwhile Mysore Royal family.

Oriental Research Institute. Has over 33,000 palm leaf manuscripts.
- o) Somanathapura -
Somanathapura: Situated in the unobtrusive village of Somanathpur, 35km from Mysore, the exquisitely carved, star-shaped temple with triple towers is a perfect example of Hoysala architecture.
- p) Bylakupee Tibetan Settlements -
Bylakupee Tibetan Settlements. Tibetan Budhist Center, famous for its three copper and gold plated statues of Buddha located in the Golden Temple. 85 Km distance from Mysore.
- q) Talacauvery -
Talacauvery - Considered to be place of origin of Cauvery River. Located in the Brahmagiri hill near Bhagamandala in Kodagu (Coorg) district, Except rainy season, the spring is not visible. Approx. 160 Km.
- r) Bandipur National Park -
Bandipur National Park - 874 square kilometres National Park is an important Project Tiger reserve. It is located in the Chamarajanagar district. Home of thousands of wild elephants and many wild tigers. Bordering Nagarhole National Park, Wynad Wildlife Sanctuary and Mudumalai National Park. Approx 90 Km from Mysore.
- s) Nagarhole National Park -
Nagarhole National Park - also known as "Rajiv Gandhi National Park", It is located between Coorg (Kodagu) and Mysore. Bordering Bandipur National Park. 94 kilometers from Mysore.
- t) Shivanasamudra -
The Shivanasamudra falls are formed on the Cauvery river. A little distance before the falls, the river splits into two, forming an island. Though the falls become very thin during summer as the water is diverted to the Hydroelectric project Dam through channels, it is majestic during Monsoon period. Gagana Chukki is 90 metres in height and second waterfallBhara Chukki is 69 metres in height.
- u) Kokkare Bellur -
Kokkare Bellur (Village of Storks). Home of more than 180 speies of birds. A small village off the main highway between Bangalore and Mysore, is one of the few nesting sites of the spotbilled pelican and other storks in India. For Bird Lovers, it is a fantastic site to visit during December and January, as you can see large number of Pelicans during this period. As it hasnt any other interesting thing to offer, visting the Bird Vilalge during non-seasons could be disappointing for leisure travellers, who are less interested in bird watching.
- v) Srirangapatna -
Srirangapatna of Mandya District, Karnataka, is located between Mysore city and Mandya town on the National High way. Srirangapattana is of great religious, cultural and historic importance. Shrirangapattana picnic spot and an island in the Cauvery River, and was once the summer capital Mysore Sultans Hyder Ali and his son Tipu.

Janapada Loka is a museum of folk art of Karnataka. Located on the Bangalore - Mysore Highway.
- w) Talakkad -
Thalakkad Panchalingeswara Temples (5 Temples of Shiva) are famous. Many temples were said to be buried under sand here and some of them are unearthed. These temples have aspects of Dravidian, Ganga, Chola, Hoysala and Vijayanagar styles of Architecture, as the temples were rennovated on several occasions in the history by various rulers. On the Bank of Kavery river. A serene picnic spot, especially for families and children.
